The Easter Days are coming, the most people have holidays, meet with their families and yet so many aren't conscious about why these days are holidays and what is connected with it.
Easter is the highest feast of Christianity, more important than Christmas, because the biggest secret of the Christian faith took place - the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Jesus Christ gave to us the Eucharist, the Holy Communion, which is celebrated in every mess, for he sacrificed himself for our sins so that we too can have the hope for resurrection one day.
In the evening before his dead Jesus celebrated the last supper with his disciples. He knew the time has come to leave and go to his father. Jesus passed the bread and wine to them as a sign of his body, which he sacrifices for mankind and of his blood, which he would shed for the forgiveness of our sins. Jesus called on his twelve disciples to have this supper again and again in remembrance of his doings.
And taking bread, he gave thanks and broke it and gave it to them, saying: "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this as a commemoration of me." Similarly also, he took the chalice, after he had eaten the meal, saying: "This chalice is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you.
( Luke 22; 19-20 )
Moreover Jesus washed the feet of his disciples which had been a very special gesture. He, the master, kneeled down in front of his servants and washed their feet. It should be a sign of humility. Jesus made himself small in front of those who are looking up to him. He didn't think he was better than those, who follow him - he was a servant, too.
And that's what he still does in the Eucharist today. Jesus makes himself small, lays down in our hands and gives himself to us.
For I have given you an example, so that just as I have done for you, so also should you do.
Amen, amen, I say to you, the servant is not greater than his Lord, and the apostle is not greater than he who sent him.
If you understand this, you shall be blessed if you will do it.
( John 13; 15-17 )
Good Friday is the day of grief. Christians remember the suffering and dying of Jesus with walking the way of the cross and celebrating the mess at 3 pm, the hour of Jesus' death.
"And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said: 'Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.' And upon saying this, he expired."
( Luke 23; 46 )
And finally, in the Easter vigil, the night of Saturday to Sunday, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated. Lumen Christi, light Christi, which came into our world and gave us hope, love and faith.
